Jour 6 - Ballad of a thin Man - Autodafé rue Christine (FFCF 2010)

ballad

-

-

In English for our audience worldwide. Do you know Yann Kerloc'h's last feature, Ballad of a Thin Man ?

ballad

A film by Yann Kerloc'h it deserves. Last Sunday, in addition to the statutory 15 minutes late, we had to play three short films means (and not always very short) and bear some technical problems before discovering Yann masterpiece, a culmination of its 10 year relationship with Korea. Before the meeting, Yann gratifies us with a few words timid applause from the audience. We remember when we already felt a special excitement Christine Street.

-
Ballad of a Thin Man is certainly a work apart in the 5th Festival of Korean-French film. Directed by Breton fell in love with Korea ten years ago already (ah the taste of the sea!), The work ventures into the thorny topic of much-French-Korean relations in a hostess bar.Illegal in France, these places have stores in Korea and knowledge of a considerable success. The story does not say whether Yann Kerloc'h himself has visited such an establishment, we just know he had a long discussion with a hostess that would have allowed him to feed his movie many details.

-
At the end of the meeting, an uneasy silence pervaded the room. With this film Yann Kerloc'h brings the film to its status as an ephemeral art. From the generic images flee but remain imbued in us as the memories of a bad dream. Throughout the projection of Ballad of a Thin Man, one wonders about the connection to reality. The images are banal rare, its constant reminder that life offstage exogenous (horns, engines, urban sounds unpleasant) and yet Yann Kerloc'h us into another world, even outside the film and screen. He is constantly questioning the spectator: what are you doing? as you look? Why?

-
What we see are the players who play against time, against realism, against the likelihood. For more than twenty minutes they take a note terribly wrong, we disturb the point of maintaining a physical relationship with the audience. The story is part of the same logic: badly told, it manages to be wobbly while following a pattern highly expected, a real tour de force that would make Tarantino blush. Yann Kerloc'h, director of deconstruction: it dismantles the traditional patterns, dismembered our expectations, we take against the grain and scratches.

-
Attend a screening of Ballad of a Thin Man, that participate in a ping-pong with the constant reality, not sure everyone has understood the scope of the event. Not content to attend in person at the meeting, Yann has also invited much of the film crew and takes care to point the finger that everyone knows he is in good company! We caught and suddenly no one dares to laugh or grieve. It puts us in our place as a spectator hypocritical playing against time, trying continually oxymoron Film "brilliantly zero. The light is harsh, the frames are bad, its unbearable, dialogues and too badly written, erecting an abysmal void ... and even a field cons field, Yann you may miss it completely. And yet the tone is extremely serious and the generic and the interview after we confirm that it took time and the world to uncover this hideous offspring. All the clues are there and evoke the early films of aspiring film enthusiasts, those who are between friends turns into an afternoon for fun and it never shows. He never deviates from the bad taste and always takes care of making the wrong choice.

-
Thus Yann tribute to all these anonymous works, remained forever stored on hard drives stashed in the bottom of dark closets. He tends to play all the humiliations that have not occurred and sacrificed on the altar of amateurism. A little booger in our base of moviegoers. It is difficult to imagine that we will ever see such a performance car stoned in public and when at the end of the film, Yann went on stage to answer questions, a long awkward silence settles. What can I say? Bravo Yann, I never doubted you and I had a great time.

-
PS: Without a thought for Congo who had an appointment and had to leave us in early trading, with tears in his eyes, noting that he could not see the movie by Yann programmed last.

To go further:

- Yann K, stronger than the film, the interview "I think the Koreans very beautiful, so Korean, in particular, not to hide it :-). Elegance, dignity incredible" Oh my bastard!
